BCD and Quadrant Software, which are both divisions of Fresche (now Fresche Solutions), have released new versions of three of their popular IBM i (AS400) development, modernisation and mobilisation tools: WebSmart, Presto and Formtastic.

WebSmart

WebSmart for Node.js was added as the newest edition of WebSmart, the multi-awarding winning tool for developing apps, web services and mobile apps, at the back end of last year. In this latest release, new templates in WebSmart produce the server-side Javascript and are developed with Bootstrap, which is a leading responsive, mobile-first framework that uses a single code base for the desktop and mobile versions.

You can watch an introductory video about WebSmart for Node.js below.

Also included in the latest release are Unicode editions for both WebSmart PHP and Node.js, which provide full support for most double-byte character set languages.

It is worth noting that the minimum IBM i OS release for WebSmart for Node.js is V7R1.

V6R1 is required for WebSmart ILE and PHP.

Presto

A powerful tool for transferring green screens and system menus into modern, web-based GUI’s without requiring code changes, Presto 6.6 includes three new features:

  • Modify your screens while in Mobile mode in Presto’s Visual Editor
  • There is a now a toolbar option so you can switch views from Desktop Mode to Mobile Mode
  • Now optimised for mobile with mobile-specific customisation panel.

Formtastic

Highlights in Formtastic 10.1 include improvements to cheque security, automation of output queue definition, enhanced productivity and a file command report for forms and cheques that lists all file output paths.

Dynamically defined printer output queues

Print to any supported printer output queues without the need to define each one by defining them dynamically by either passing them through the output queue parameters in the spool file header or by looking up the output queue in a DB2 table using the Formatter module.

File command reports

Quickly pull up a list of all forms and cheques containing a File Command, as well as the file output path.

Merge logging deactivation

Deactivate merge logging when log file size may impact on system performance. Useful for organisations customers running a large number of daily merges.

Improved security against cheque fraud

Prevent users from printing cheques from anywhere in the menu if they use an invalid signature file.

Check menu security enhancement

Prevent your users from accessing the CHECK menu if the user doesn’t have *MASTER permission.

Zebra label images stored in printer memory

There is now the option of storing images in the Zebra printer flash memory. This means that there is one less step to ensure images print correctly on Zebra printers.

Unused file command indexes automatically deleted

Formtastic will now automatically delete related unused indexes rather than rely on users to manually delete each one when users create File Commands via the green screen.
