Prepare for the Factory of the Future

What-is-DELMIAWorks-Doing-To-Help-Businesses-Prepare-for-Factory-of-The-Future-Header

How is DELMIAWorks helping manufacturing businesses prepare for the Factory of the Future

In order for manufacturing businesses to work towards the Factory of the Future, they need to have the right software and systems in place that enable them to connect all of their systems, processes and people.

If you’re unsure what the Factory of the Future is, then we’d recommend reading our earlier post, What is the Factory of the Future?

DELMIAWorks Manufacturing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Manufacturing Execution System (MES) comes with a range of core modules, as well as optional add-on modules, that you can hand-pick to suit the unique requirements of your business.

With that in mind, we’ll dive into a selection of the features offered by DELMIAWorks which are helping manufacturers work towards the Factory of the Future and prevent unnecessary downtime, whilst increasing efficiency, quality and profits.

Highly configurable shop floor user interface

Ease of use and efficiency are two incredibly important factors when working with software that manages complex workflows and processes.

DELMIAWorks uses a SHOPWORKS, web-enabled shop floor interface for manufacturers as it provides intuitive touchscreen dashboards, which helps manufacturers with versatile production environments to simplify their shop floor activities.

Real-time insights from the manufacturing and ERP modules empower operators with the information they need to quickly respond and react to customer enquiries, production changes, and demand fluctuations.

DELMIAWorks has the ability to provide a unique, relevant dashboard for each person’s specific role, which grants them the ability to see the information they need, exactly when they need it.

Shop floor workers can have their own dashboards configured in the way that suits them best and this will help them to become more efficient in their own workflows.

The user-friendly interface makes it incredibly easy for workers to perform their everyday manufacturing tasks accurately and efficiently.

Real-time insights not only help the people on the shopfloor to make the manufacturing process more efficient and quickly respond to any issues, but it also helps the executives on the top floor with things such as accounting, as they can see the real-time cost implications of the manufacturing process.

Eliminate disruptions with Preventative Maintenance

In the manufacturing sphere, maintenance is something which simply cannot be avoided.

Machinery needs to be kept operational and in order to do that, they need to be periodically cleaned, fixed and upgraded.

Thankfully, DELMIAWorks has implemented a complete solution for manufacturing equipment maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), which assists businesses working towards the Factory of the Future who require all their systems, processes and people to be connected right throughout the business.

Preventative maintenance helps eliminate scheduling problems associated with “out for repair” equipment.

Any planned maintenance is reflected in the scheduling module within DELMIAWorks, meaning that planners can see the real-time scheduling implications of machine downtime and provide customers with accurate information on completion dates for their orders.

“With DELMIAWORKS we’ve reduced maintenance costs alone over 70 percent and achieved lean objectives like reduced cycle time, automated workflow, and the elimination of redundant processes. “

Not only does preventative maintenance in DELMIAWorks allow you to eliminate disruptions to the production schedule, but it also helps you avoid costly repairs resulting from overused or misused equipment, improve the reliability and longevity of your equipment and improve accuracy of maintenance cost tracking and reporting.

Efficient pricing and Quoting

Traditionally, working out pricing and quoting for a job, particularly in manufacturing, is a process that can take up a lot of valuable time.

The DELMIAWorks (formerly IQMS) Estimating and Quoting function takes into account all aspects of the quoting process including material, overhead, labor, outsourced operations, commission calculations, and miscellaneous additional fees.

Because all of the DELMIAWorks ERP and Manufacturing Software modules are designed on a single database, the quote is developed based on true, expected costs, material price comparison, tooling and equipment amortization, and a number of other factors.

It will also include excess material (i.e. scrap, regrind, waste, skeleton) calculations for more accurate consumption estimating.

Once approved, the quote can quickly be converted into a Bill of Manufacturing (BOM) and also a sales order with just the click of a button and be sent to you customers via fax, email, the web or even printed and mailed.

As all the information from each job is stored within DELMIAWorks, it makes creating future quotes much more streamlined and means you don’t have to redefine the entire process every time and calculate your costs from scratch.

The huge benefit that DELMIAWorks provides for manufacturers is that it allows your business to get more done, in less time, making you more efficient, reducing the costs and increasing the profits in your manufacturing operation.
