As the necessity for businesses to be able to provide applications and functionality from mobile devices increases, BCD Software, now Fresche Solutions, has announced the release of a major enhancement to Presto, which provides the fastest way to modernise IBM i green screens with a web-based GUI.
Presto Mobile is an iOS app designed to give access to modernised green screns from iPhones and iPads. BCD Software is currently awaiting approval from the Android app store and it is expected that this will be available in a matter of weeks.
Once an organisation has installed Presto, individual users can download the Presto Mobile app (for free) from Apple’s App Store and configure it to connect to their modernised green screens.
Marcel Sarrasin, Quadrant’s VP of Corporate Marketing told MC Press:
“The Presto Mobile app is another example of the investment we’re continually making in Presto and its mobile capabilities. This gives IBM i organisations the option to deploy from an App store or a browser. It also makes it easier to take advantage of the device’s hardware, such as the camera for scanning barcodes”.
Straight out-of-the-box, green screens modernised with Presto will work with the Presto Mobile app. Developers can then further enhance screens using Presto’s Windows-based Visual Editor adding newer, mobile-friendly user interface (UI) elements, including HTML5 inputs without necessarily having to have HTML experience.
Organisations will also be able to create their own fully customised and branded version of the app – and take advantage of other hardware features like geolocation and audio/video capture.
