Webinar: which PHP coding style should IBM i programmers use?

php

We have written a lot about the use of PHP for modernising, developing and mobilising IBM i systems before on this blog.

PHP has become a firm favourite for developing web applications for a number of reasons, not least because it is an open-source programming language that is relatively easy for traditional RPG programmers to learn and master. When looking at PHP, there are coding styles to consider:

  • Procedural
  • Object-oriented (OO)
  • Model-view-controller (MVC).

In the latest webinar being run by BCD Software and Quadrant Software, now Fresche Solutions, Duncan Kenzie (Chief Knowledge Officer) will be looking at the similarities and differences between the three styles, when programmers should consider switching to OO or MVC (and maybe most importantly, why), and the best approaches available for RPG programmers. Duncan is the author of WebSmart ILE and WebSmart PHP, Nexus, Catapult, and several other IBM i productivity tools whose career has spanned 33 years in the midrange IBM space.

During the second part of the webinar, attendees will be shown how the BCD Software WebSmart PHP templates can speed up the development of web applications regardless of which PHP style you choose. This segment will be delivered by Marcel Sarrasin, director of marketing for BCD and Quadrant Software.

The webinar is being run in conjunction with the COMMON User Group. Further details and registration can be found here. The webinar is on Thursday 6 November at 6:00 pm GMT
