A former contractor working for Eaton Corporation, an American multinational power management company which provides solutions to manage electrical, hydraulic and mechanical power efficiently, safely and sustainably, has been charged by the FBI in Ohio with transmitting and attempting to transmit computer codes, programs or commands, intending to cause damage to a protected computer.
Arturas Samoilovas worked for Eaton for six months as a financial analyst on a contract basis. After being turned down for a number of full-time posts within the organisation Samoilovas accessed the organisation’s computer system on or around the 21 May 2014 and ‘inserted certain malicious computer codes, programs or instructions which would delete files or data from the Eaton Corporation computer system’ according to the indictment from the U.S. Attorney’s office.
The malicious code was discovered when Samoilovas contacted an employee at Eaton to tell them about the code.
