Last week we looked at the latest version of Formtastic, the IBM i spool file graphical forms and distribution automation tool. In the latest release, Quadrant Software, now Fresche Solutions, developers have upgraded Formtastic to a new modern code framework.
As a result, they are able to enhance the tool more frequently. We hinted in the news article that integration with BCD Software’s Nexus Portal, which provides secure IBM i web portals for enterprise information would be the next evolution in the product.
Here, we can give a sneak preview of the upcoming integration which will enable secure web-based access, archiving and search for Formtastic documents.
Secure web-access
As Nexus Portal enables you to set up individual profiles for users, you will be able to provide different employees, partners and even customers with the ability to login and only access the documents you want them to see.
Nexus Portal can also be used as an intranet, which means documents are only available to employees protected by a corporate firewall or VPN.
Search and navigate from any device
Nexus Portal has a mobile-friendly user interface with responsive elements enabling users to easily navigate and access their documents from any device including their PC, tablet or mobile device. Nexus Portal can index different parameters from the document file, such as document type, customer or account name, dates – and any number of custom parameters. This enables users to quickly search and find the documents they’re looking for using the prompts, filters and date pickers.

Nexus is a fully-featured IBM i-hosted web portal that gives employees, partners and/or customers secure, organised access to enterprise information through their web browser. Administrators can easily create and manage pages, menus, users, content and permissions without any coding. Nexus is also part of Quadrant and BCD Software’s real-time IBM i web-reporting solution, Business i.
