ibmi-trends-iug-conference_0

If you are lucky enough to be attending the COMMON Annual Meeting and Exposition in Anaheim, California later this month, then why not visit the BCD Software and Quadrant Software (now known as Fresche Solutions) stand?

At stand 101, representatives will be answering any technical questions you may have about both BCD and Quadrant products, examining the best approaches to modernising and developing your IBM i applications, providing demonstrations of the newest product releases and discussing how the recent partnership expansion with Zend can benefit your organisation (the BCD Software and Zend partnership aims to become the IBM i communities primary resource for PHP on the IBM i development).

BCD Software will also be running a number of sessions during the event which you might find interesting:

Rapidly develop PHP Desktop and mobile applications with WebSmart PHP

Sunday, April 26 2015 (12:30 pm – 01:45 pm)

In this lab, attendees will use WebSmart PHP to create fully functioning PHP desktop and mobile applications over DB2 files. Attendees will be able to do this even if they do not have any prior web development experience. WebSmart PHP is a rapid web application development tool that includes templates that create the starting PHP, HTML and CSS for developers. Through lab exercises, attendees will use WebSmart PHP to write feature-rich PHP web applications including:

  • a list of items that display images
  • a mobile optimised list of orders
  • a form to get input from users
  • an applictaion that calls an RPG program.

During the session, attendees will understand how PHP applications can be developed and deployed on the IBM i and learn how to rapidly develop PHP applications over DB2 using WebSmart PHP.

This particular session is aimed at any programmer that wants to get hands-on experience of creating database-driven PHP applications on the IBM i using a rapid web application development tool, plus IT Managers who want an introduction to productivity tools on the IBM i for PHP development.

Giving green screens the web GUI they need with Presto

Sunday, April 26 2015 (12:30 pm – 01:45 pm)

Also on Sunday, COMMON attendees can alternatively see how fast they can give green screens a web GUI with BCD Software’s Presto. The starting point for attendees of this particular session is the instant web pages Presto creates automatically, which attendees will then further enhance using Presto’s visual editor. Attendees will go through step-by-step exercises on adding new UI elements such as images, dynamic drop-down boxes and charts. Attendees will also see how to use RPG Open Access with Presto to create scrolling grids – and see the difference between RPG OA and 5250 refacing.

This session will benefit anyone interested in application modernisation and is aimed at beginners to the subject.

Deliver first-rate mobile applications using your existing skills with Presto and WebSmart

Monday, April 27 2015 (02:00 pm – 03:15 pm)

This particular session is aimed at RPG programmers and IT managers who want to develop new RPG or PHP mobile web apps or transform greens screens into mobile apps as quickly as possible using Presto and WebSmart.

Attendees will see how to deliver a complete IBM i mobile solution that can include modernised green screens, RPG and PHP. BCD will also discuss how current web technologies provide the flexibility to future-proof applications. BCD will also examine why HTML5 is the best mobile development approach for most IBM i shops.

If you’re not lucky enough to attend the event in Anaheim, don’t forget there is an opportunity to learn more about BCD and Quadrant and PHP on the IBM i from UK and Ireland partners, Proximity at the International i-Power annual conference which takes place at the Wyboston Lakes Executive Centre in Bedfordshire on 9 and 10 September 2015.

Amongst the presenters already confirmed at the conference are Paul Touhy and the ever-popular, and highly-regarded, Alison Butterill from IBM.

Proximity’s Pete Samways will be running a workshop session entitled ‘Installing and Running Open Source Products on your IBM i’ which will show attendees how to install and run an Open Source PHP application such as Drupal, Magento, WordPress, Mantis Bug Tracker or Sugar CRM on the IBM i, starting with a scratch install of the Zend Server and the DBi (MySQL) Database onto a clean IBM i during the workshop.

If you are interested in attending the International i-Power conference, you can benefit from a 10% discount voucher by quoting NC222 when booking through the website. Please note that the discount will not work if the person registering is already a member of i-UG.
