Next Tuesday will provide the UK and European-based IBM i community the opportunity to benefit from the education workshops being presented virtually by COMMON, the world’s largest IBM Power Systems user group.
Taking place from 3.00pm BST on Tuesday 21st July 2015, the COMMON all-day event enables IBM i professionals to:
“Take advantage of leading Power Systems education right from your own computer and at no cost”.
During the event there will be a host of expert industry speakers giving educational workshops on new topics in the industry, plus a number of vendor-led sessions, including BCD Software (now Fresche Solutions). You’ll be able to interact directly with the exhibitors, ask questions and learn whether specific products are right for you and view demos of those products – all from your computer.

Bring your RPG business logic to the web with the PHP toolkit
Presented by Alan Seiden (Alan Seiden Consulting) and Marcel Sarrasin (Quadrant and BCD Software), this workshop will cover:
“How to access IBM i resources from PHP such as RPG and COBOL programs, system commands, data areas, and more, using the free open source toolkit, supported by Zend. You’ll also see how BCD’s WebSmart PHP templates speed up PHP development on IBM i and help you and develop new desktop and mobile applications while leveraging your existing code”.
Access your IBM i in the modern world with modern devices
With the recent statement of direction that iAccess for Windows will not be supported on the Windows 10 operating systems level, IBM’s Tim Rowe argues that it is that you should to take a look at the options available to you today. In this session, Tim will cover the Access Client Solutions and the new iAccess Mobile solutions.
Tim is currently the business architect for application development on IBM i. He has the responsibility for ensuring that the platform has the infrastructure and components necessary for customers to develop, build, and run applications on IBM i.
Nuts and bolts of ILE development
Looking at the ‘how’ of ILE, Barbara Morris, who works at the IBM Toronto Lab where she is one of the lead developers of the RPG compilers, will show you how to:
“Create all the objects needed when you take full advantage of ILE: modules, service programs, and binding directories”.
What’s new in DB2
Who better than Scott Forstie to present a session on what is new in DB2?
Scott is a senior software engineer at IBM. He is the DB2 for i Business Architect, SQL development leader, and IBM i developerWorks content manager. In this session he’ll run through the key enhancements for DB2 in IBM i V7.2 as well as the most recent technology refresh content.
What’s new with DB2 web query?
Continuing on the DB2 theme, Doug Mack, DB2 product marketing manager within IBM’s System i Product Marketing Group will:
“Guide you through InfoAssist, the sleek new development tool, see a demo of the new mobile capabilities, learn about Dynamic Runtime Environments – a new feature that will let end users quickly change their library lists prior to running query requests”.
