Grants for Innovative Manufacturers in Yorkshire

Grants for Innovative Manufacturers in Yorkshire

PAPI (Product and Process Innovation) is offering funding for new business development initiatives. They are giving grants for innovative manufacturers and other organisations based in Yorkshire.

The successful applicant would be eligible to receive up to £20k of funding. A grant of 40% is available on a project spend of between £20k – £50K.

The funding is available only for businesses based in Yorkshire – specifically in York, North Yorkshire or the East Riding. The grants are intended to bring economic development into York and the surrounding areas, by enabling businesses to develop new and innovative products and solutions.

The grant funding is focused on businesses engaged in specific sectors:

  • Bioscience
  • Digital and creative media
  • Electronic-based
  • Food and drink
  • Health and social care
  • Manufacturing using biological and chemical materials

These businesses based in Yorkshire must also fall into the SME (Small to Medium Enterprise) category, with a turnover of less than €50 million (or balance sheet total of less than €43 million) and fewer than 250 employees in total.

PAPI provides equipment grants to small businesses in Yorkshire, to enable innovation through new product development.

Funding is also supported by the European Regional Development Fund (the European Union funding that supports the Europe 2020 strategy for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth), delivered by the University of York in conjunction with the Yorkshire-based growth hub How’s Business.

After submitting an application for the grant, companies will have the opportunity to work with a project team to develop a full business case for the funding. After the initial assessment and appraisal, successful companies will procure the goods they have secured funding for via a specification and tendering process. Once the goods have been purchased for the project the cost can be claimed against the grant for reimbursement.

Successfully funded businesses will be asked to “monitor and report the benefits that the business has derived from the supported investment”.

For eligible Yorkshire-based manufacturers, the grant could go towards funding new infrastructure or systems to improve the process for new product development. The equipment purchased must remain located in the York, North Yorkshire and East Riding region. Additionally, the funding will only be granted for equipment that is “dedicated to the project activity (100% used for their entire lifetime)”.
